The Importance Of Asking Questions

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

~ Maya Angelou

If I had to pinpoint the exact moment when my journey into health began, it was just before the birth of our first child, back in 2004.

As our birthing classes concluded, we were all invited to attend a transformative toxicology workshop. Naturally, being the curious souls that we are, my husband and I eagerly signed up.

Little did we know that this workshop would blow our minds and forever alter the course of our lives. It was an eye-opening, pivotal moment that set us on a path of lasting transformation.

A Surprising Revelation

Our presenter laid bare the harsh reality—products like toothpaste, shampoo, and mouthwash are loaded with toxic chemicals linked to cancer and cardiovascular disease. Yes, the very same products you and I rely on.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Even after washing our clothes over 60 times, the chemicals in laundry detergent cling to our garments and seep into our bloodstream through skin contact.

The consequences?

Widespread havoc wreaked on our health, causing long-term damage.

The revelations that night left us astounded.

How could we unknowingly expose ourselves and our unborn child to such toxic ingredients? How could these contaminants infiltrate our homes, our food, our very bodies?

They are everywhere, silently lurking.

Never Stop Asking Questions

How many of you have ever stopped to wonder about the ingredients that go into the products we use every day? Whether it’s the deodorant, detergent, face cream, or hand soap we rely on, or even the food we consume, we often take it for granted that somebody out there is looking out for our well-being.

But what if I told you that assumption may be completely wrong?

And so, with this eye-opening realization, my journey towards a healthier lifestyle took flight.

I started questioning everything… the dangers of plastic, non-stick pans, make-up and many other products I used regularly. Before long, I started asking about what dangerous ingredients lurked in our food and water supplies. I started asking how mindfulness and stress impacted our health.

My inquisitions led me on a journey to search for answers. And it is still ongoing.

The questions continue to pour out faster than answers.

Through my studies and research, I discovered how our decisions affect not only our own health but also the health of our beautiful planet and all the other creatures that we share it with. I am learning about the impact of consumerism on a global scale.

Being named after a Greek deity doesn’t give me a backstage pass to be the Healthy Goddess. It’s a work in progress. But I believe that if we aspire to live the healthiest life we can, then we can all be healthy goddesses.

Do you know what’s in your toothpaste?
